Tinder texts expose cringe-worthy messages and dating burnout

More than 350 million people worldwide use dating apps, with Tinder accounting for a large share of weekly meet‑ups – about 1.5 million users go on dates each week. Recent list‑style compilations highlight a range of bizarre and awkward opening messages shared by users, from nonsensical jokes to unsettling requests.

A U.S. singles survey cited in the coverage found that 53 % of respondents report dating burnout and 46 % have taken breaks from online dating, underscoring growing frustration with the platform’s communication culture. The app, launched in 2012 by Hatch Labs and funded by IAC, continues to dominate the market despite the noted challenges in user interactions.
