Tinjan sets new Guinness World Record for pršut slicing
A new Guinness World Record for the most people slicing meat was set in the Istrian town of Tinjan during the 18th International Pršut Fair (ISAP 2026). Out of 300 participants, 285 successfully completed the challenge of simultaneously slicing pršut, surpassing the previous record of 205 people set in Spain eight years ago.
To qualify, participants had to slice at least five pieces of ham, with each slice measuring between 0.5 and 1.5 millimeters in thickness, within a two-minute window. Guinness World Records adjudicator Joanne Brent verified the results.
Tinjan Mayor Goran Hrvatin noted the significant effort and volunteer involvement required to meet the strict competition rules. The fair also serves as a platform for regional producers, featuring approximately 40 prosciutto producers from Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, and Montenegro. Agriculture Minister David Vlajčić highlighted Croatia’s protected pršut varieties, including Istrian, Krk, Drniš, and Dalmatian, noting that the country produces approximately 500,000 hams annually.
