Tiny house innovations emerge in France and Ireland
Tiny house developments are gaining traction as solutions for minimalist living and housing accessibility in Europe. In France, the Vosges-based workshop Tibi House has produced ‘Agnès’, a minimalist mobile home built on a wooden frame and trailer. Designed for year-round habitation, the model emphasizes essential living without luxury additions like jacuzzis or oversized windows, and can be equipped with solar panels and eco-friendly sanitation.
In Ireland, the startup Yardbox is addressing the housing crisis with ‘Bothán’, a 45sqm prefabricated mini-home. Inspired by Irish rural architecture, the unit features black-stained Thermowood siding and a metal roof. The project aims to provide affordable housing for adult children or elderly parents by utilizing existing garden spaces, a move supported by recently relaxed Irish regulations regarding accessory dwellings on occupied lots.
