Tirana cultural life resumes following violent protests
Cultural activities in Tirana are beginning to resume after nearly two weeks of violent protests that had caused the cancellation or rescheduling of various performances, effectively paralyzing the city's cultural life.
The National Theatre is scheduled to present five performances of William Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’, directed by Qëndrim Rijani, between October 28 and November 1. Additionally, the Experimental National Theatre will host a production of George Orwell’s ‘1984’, a co-production between the ‘Kujtim Spahivogli’ Experimental National Theatre and Migjeni Theatre, directed by Dino Mustafić.
Children's performances, including ‘Who Made the Rules?’, are set to return on October 31 and November 1. While the National Opera and Ballet Theatre has no currently scheduled performances and a concert by Tedi Papavrami and Hélène Mercier has been postponed, other regional activities are proceeding, such as the ‘eQuinixe Europe’ screenplay development workshop in Durrës.
