Tirana hosts OECD PISA Governing Board meeting

Tirana is hosting the PISA Governing Board meeting, bringing together representatives from 91 countries to discuss international student assessment priorities. The three-day event includes panels and discussion tables focused on the future of education in a rapidly changing world.

During the opening ceremony, Albanian Minister of Education Mirela Kumbaro emphasized the importance of preparing students for a world shaped by artificial intelligence and technological shifts. She noted that PISA helps educators understand how students apply knowledge to real-world situations, specifically in reading, mathematical reasoning, and scientific inquiry.

In a separate context regarding educational outcomes, Kosovo Minister of Education Hajrulla Çeku announced that a new 10-year strategic reform is being developed to address weak PISA test results. This strategy involves collaboration with unions, parents, and student councils. Planned interventions include curriculum reviews, a total overhaul of school textbooks, and the digitalization of the learning process, alongside a national program specifically targeting reading and mathematics skills.
