An analysis by Thomas Cook identifies Tirana, the capital of Albania, as the most affordable European capital for short trips. Travelers can expect an average daily cost of approximately 59 euros, covering mid-range accommodation, meals, local transport, and sightseeing.

In Tirana, a mid-range hotel stay averages around 32 euros per person, with dinner in affordable restaurants costing roughly 8.50 euros. The city has undergone significant urban transformation, replacing older structures with colorful facades, new parks, and cultural spaces, centered around Skanderbeg Square.

Across Europe, tourism spending varies significantly by region. While travelers in high-cost countries like Switzerland, Iceland, Denmark, and Norway spend between 150 and 280 euros per day, those in Central and Eastern Europe typically spend between 60 and 100 euros. The Balkan region, including Albania, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria, remains among the most budget-friendly destinations.
