Security and regulatory incidents reported in Albania and Kosovo

Various security and regulatory incidents have been reported across Albania and Kosovo. In Albania, police arrested a 30-year-old man in Dibër attempting to transport a Kalashnikov and a pistol via taxi toward the North Macedonian border. In Shkodër, a 26-year-old man previously sentenced for drug trafficking was apprehended during operation ‘Last Travel’, alongside two accomplices. Additionally, police in Shkodër arrested a 73-year-old man for an attempted domestic homicide involving a hammer, and a 47-year-old man for domestic violence.

In Kosovo, the Environmental Inspectorate intensified controls, halting work for one company due to missing water permits and identifying management deficiencies regarding radioactive waste at the Kosova A Power Plant. Meanwhile, the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo issued a report highlighting low compliance by police stations regarding court orders, noting delays in operational actions and poor documentation.

Regional tensions have also surfaced, with increased border controls between Kosovo and Albania following violent protests in Tirana. These protests, driven by opposition to education cost increases and government corruption, have led to numerous arrests and clashes between demonstrators and police.
