Tirana protests reach 135 days against Edi Rama government

Protests in Tirana against Prime Minister Edi Rama have reached their 135th consecutive day. Originally sparked by an investment project in Zvërnec, the demonstrations have expanded to demand the resignation of the government, the formation of a technical administration, and the annulment of various legal changes regarding protected areas.

Activists have called on the Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) to investigate and arrest Edi Rama and Belinda Balluku. During the demonstrations, protesters have marched toward the Prime Ministry, occasionally blocking traffic.

Legal disputes have emerged regarding the treatment of demonstrators. Activist Sidorela Vatnikaj noted that a court declared the arrests of two individuals who threw eggs at the Prime Minister to be illegal, characterizing the act as symbolic political rebellion rather than violence. Meanwhile, activist Edison Lika claimed that police continue to conduct illegal arrests during these peaceful gatherings.

Political analysts have offered varying perspectives on the movement. Dritan Hila suggested the protests lack a concrete program and are driven primarily by slogans, while former deputy Ervin Salianji accused both Edi Rama and Sali Berisha of working together to undermine the demonstrations.
