Tirana urban development project aims to increase green space through construction
Tirana is entering a new phase of urban development characterized by the integration of concrete and steel to increase green surfaces. Prime Minister Edi Rama presented a new project intended for the site of the former ‘Taiwan’ complex in Rinia Park, arguing that the project will increase the city's green area.
Critics note a trend in Albanian urbanism where green spaces are being replaced by construction, such as the developments at the former Hotel Drin site, the Toptani Center near the Castle, and the Namazgjas area. The shift suggests a model where greenery is added via terraces and planters on high-rise buildings rather than through traditional botanical methods in soil.
