Tire Industry Shifts Toward Circular Economy and EV‑Specific Products

Representatives of the two largest global tire retreading markets met at PneuShow 2026 in São Paulo to discuss how cheap low‑cost imports from Asia are reshaping competition and prompting a strategic focus on circular‑economy approaches. David Stevens, executive director of the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB), and Margareth Buzetti, president of the Associação Brasileira da Reforma de Pneus (ABR) highlighted that extending tire life through retreading not only reduces waste but also strengthens local technical knowledge, industrial resilience and supply‑chain security.

Bridgestone announced the launch of Turanza EV, a premium electric‑vehicle tire produced in Costa Rica. The tire incorporates ENLITEN® technology to lower rolling resistance, QuietTrack to reduce road noise, and contains 50 % renewable and recycled materials. According to senior marketing manager Francisco Calzada, the heavier weight, instant torque and quieter cabin of EVs demand new tyre designs that improve energy efficiency, comfort and durability, influencing vehicle range and safety.
