Tire maintenance and safety regulations

Proper tire maintenance is critical for vehicle stability, braking, and safety. Irregular tire wear can be caused by improper inflation, incorrect wheel alignment, or worn suspension and shock absorber systems. Maintaining recommended tire pressure ensures uniform contact with the road, improves fuel efficiency, and prevents premature degradation.

In Brazil, the National Traffic Council (Resolução nº 913/2022) mandates a minimum tread depth of 1.6 mm. Driving with tires below this limit is considered a serious infraction under the Brazilian Traffic Code, resulting in a fine of R$ 195.23, five points on the driver's license, and vehicle retention until the issue is resolved.

Safety experts note that grip on wet surfaces begins to diminish once tread depth falls below 3 mm due to reduced water drainage capacity. Drivers are advised to check the Tread Wear Indicator (TWI) regularly and perform tire rotations every 10,000 km to extend tire life and ensure safe driving conditions.
