Tirhut Canal embankment breach causes flooding in Muzaffarpur

A breach in the approximately 40-foot embankment of the Tirhut Canal near Raksa village in the Madwan block of Muzaffarpur has caused significant flooding. The incident has submerged roughly five acres of farmland across several villages, including Raksa, Bishunpur, and Chainpur, threatening crops such as paddy.

The breach has also damaged local roads, disrupting movement between Raksa Dakshin and Raksa Deeh. Local residents have expressed anger toward the administration, noting that a similar breach occurred in the same area about a month ago, despite recent efforts to reinforce the embankment. This has led to questions regarding the quality of recent construction work.

Local authorities, including Sub-Divisional Officer Sneha Kumari, stated that repair work has commenced to control the water flow. While officials are investigating the cause, local legislator Ajit Kumar has alleged that the breach was not caused by water pressure but was a deliberate act by anti-social elements, calling for a formal police investigation.
