Tirnavos distillery sealed after customs uncover 1,438 L of illegal spirit

Customs officials from the Larissa office, working with the Independent Authority of Public Revenues (AAE), inspected a small two‑day distillery in the Tirnavos area. Laboratory analysis by the Chemical Service of Volos confirmed the possession of 1,438 liters of spirit at 39.1 % alcohol by volume that had not been declared to the tax authorities.

The production and holding of the alcohol were judged to violate Greek legislation on the manufacture, taxation and distribution of alcoholic products. As a result, the facility was sealed and a substantial monetary fine was imposed, potentially reaching several tens of thousands of euros according to the customs tariff code. The case has drawn local attention and underscores a broader push by Greek customs and tax agencies to clamp down on illicit alcohol operations and protect legitimate producers and public health.
