Tirol invests in firefighting equipment following record wildfires
Tirol has recorded 52 wildfires so far this year, a significant increase compared to previous years. In the last six years, the annual number of wildfires typically ranged between 19 and 33.
Approximately 3,900 firefighters have been deployed to combat these fires. The region faces unique challenges due to its alpine topography, where steep and inaccessible terrain often necessitates the use of helicopters for firefighting efforts.
To improve response capabilities, the state is investing up to 100,000 euros in new equipment. This includes a large-capacity firefighting container capable of holding up to 2,950 liters and a “Pumpkin Tank” filling basin with a capacity of up to 54,500 liters. Previously, Tirol lacked containers of this scale, requiring equipment to be transported by road from Upper or Lower Austria during helicopter operations.
