Tirol mountain accident claims life of 79-year-old hiker
A 79-year-old Austrian alpinist died following a mountain accident at Kellerjoch in Tyrol. The man was hiking with his seven-year-old grandson toward the Kellerjochkapelle when he suddenly fell down a grass slope with a gradient of up to 45 degrees.
The grandson was walking a few meters ahead of the man at the time of the fall. Emergency responders, including a medical helicopter, a police helicopter, and a crisis intervention team, attended the scene. The man sustained fatal injuries, and his body was recovered by rescue crews.
This incident follows several other recent mountain accidents in the Alps, including a climber injured by a rockfall in the Stubai Alps and a fatal fall involving a 26-year-old woman on the Patteriol.
