Tirol reports 24 percent increase in naturalizations

Naturalization rates in Tirol, Austria, have increased significantly, with 725 individuals granted Austrian citizenship between January and the end of June 2026. This represents a 24 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year and a nearly 49 percent increase compared to the first half of 2024.

The majority of those granted citizenship originated from Syria (227), followed by Turkey (120) and Iraq (40).

To manage the rising volume of applications, regional authorities have implemented new administrative processes. Since April 2026, the province has transitioned from individual initial consultations to monthly group information sessions for up to 80 people. Officials state this change allows staff more time for actual processing while maintaining application quality.

However, the increase in applications has also led to a rise in rejections. In the first half of 2026, 74 applications were denied, compared to 49 in 2025 and 32 in 2024. Deputy Governor Philip Wohlgemuth emphasized the commitment to thorough examination and reliable processing of all requests.
