Tirumala Hill liquor racket allegations made by former TTD chairman

Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, former chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and a YSR Congress Party leader, has alleged that TTD vigilance, police, and administration are covering up a major liquor and gutka racket on the sacred Tirumala hill.

Reddy claims that while individuals were allegedly caught on the hill on August 21—specifically Eega Ramu with 182 liquor bottles near Kousthubham Guest House and Eega Priya with thousands of gutka packets near Nagateertham—the official First Information Reports (FIRs) falsely recorded the arrests as occurring the following morning at the Alipiri Link Bus Stand. He argues this discrepancy is a deliberate attempt to conceal illegal activities occurring within the sacred area.

The former chairman has demanded the immediate release of CCTV footage from the locations involved, as well as the phone-location records of SI Srivani and Eega Ramu. He also questioned why the caste details of the accused were included in the FIRs. Reddy alleged that approximately 1,000 liquor bottles are smuggled onto the hill daily, where they are sold for significantly higher prices than their purchase cost.
