Tirupur student arrested for hacking woman and mother to death

A 22-year-old college student, identified as M Akshayan, was arrested for the hacking deaths of a 21-year-old woman and her 50-to-55-year-old mother in Pachapalayam, near Palladam, in the Tirupur district.

Reports indicate that Akshayan, an MCA student from Dindigul, had a relationship with the victim, Poovarasi, which began via social media several years ago. While one report suggests the pair had married recently without parental knowledge, police noted there is currently no evidence to confirm a marriage. The incident occurred following a dispute regarding their relationship and marriage proposals.

On Tuesday morning, Akshayan allegedly entered the family residence and engaged in an altercation with the women. He reportedly used a sickle to attack Danalakshmi and Poovarasi. Neighbors intervened by breaking into the house and apprehended the suspect, who was found at the scene. The victims were transported to local hospitals, but both succumbed to their injuries. Tirupur Superintendent of Police Shristi Singh visited the site to oversee the investigation.
