Tisha Campbell diagnosed with autism and ADHD

Actress Tisha Campbell, 57, has received diagnoses of autism and ADHD. The discovery occurred after she wrote a book about her son Xen’s experience with autism. Following a suggestion from her therapist, Campbell underwent evaluations by two specialists.

Campbell noted that certain traits, such as sensory sensitivities to sound, have become clearer following the diagnosis. She shared that she often uses headphones to manage noise, describing the sensation of sounds arriving “all at once.” She also reflected on spending much of her life masking her characteristics to fit in socially.

Medical experts note that a child's diagnosis can often prompt parents to investigate their own neurodivergence. While recognizing similar traits—such as difficulties with social interaction, sensory sensitivities, or a need for strict routines—does not constitute a diagnosis, it can serve as a starting point for clinical investigation in adults. A formal adult diagnosis requires a comprehensive evaluation of developmental history and clinical observation.
