Tisha Campbell reveals AuDHD diagnosis
Actress Tisha Campbell has revealed that she has received an AuDHD diagnosis, a term used when autism and ADHD occur together. The announcement follows years of Campbell advocating for autism awareness through the lens of her experience as a mother to her son, Xen.
During an appearance on ‘Way Up with Angela Yee’, Campbell detailed the extensive diagnostic process, noting she saw two specialists and completed 12 different oral, written, and Q&A tests twice. She identified as being at level one on the autism spectrum, explaining that while her need for support may not always be visible, she manages sensory challenges, such as audio processing differences, by using earphones to block out sound.
Campbell also reflected on how the diagnosis provides context for her five-decade career in acting and music, noting that what were once viewed as obsessions or fixations are now understood in the neurodivergent community as ‘special interests’. The revelation comes shortly after the release of her memoir, ‘The A Word: A Mother’s Journey Through Autism and Love’, which focuses on her son's diagnosis and does not include her own recent findings.
