TISZ Jewish Food Festival explores Polish and Lithuanian culinary traditions

The 9th edition of the TISZ Jewish Food Festival is currently taking place at the POLIN Museum in Warsaw, running from September 9 to September 13. Under the theme ‘WSPÓLNIE’ (Together), this year’s festival explores the shared Ashkenazi culinary roots and distinct traditions of Jewish communities in Poland and Lithuania.

A central focus of the program is the 140th anniversary of the birth of Fania Lewando, a pre-war restaurateur from Vilnius known for her pioneering work in plant-based and vegetarian cuisine. Her recipes are being prepared by chef Alessia Di Donato as part of the festivities.

The event, which is part of the European Days of Jewish Culture, includes a variety of activities such as culinary workshops, themed walks, tastings, and a ceremonial Shabbat dinner to mark the Jewish New Year. Guests from Vilnius, including representatives from the restaurant Baleboste, are participating to share the specific flavors and history of Lithuanian Jewish culture.
