TISZA MP János Kiss sparks controversy over church sermon

János Kiss, a Member of Parliament from the TISZA Party, has sparked controversy following his criticism of a sermon delivered at the Palóc Cathedral in Pétervásár. Kiss alleged that the priest, referred to as ‘Robi atya’, used the mass to discuss political topics, including attacks on the TISZA community, the Prime Minister, and the government. Kiss stated that politics has no place in a house of God and suggested the sermon could constitute an incitement against a community under the Criminal Code.

The KDNP party has strongly condemned Kiss’s remarks, calling them an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Catholic Church. The party demanded that Kiss issue a public apology and refrain from what they described as hate speech against Christians. KDNP also urged government members to distance themselves from the incident, emphasizing that neither the government nor the TISZA Party intends to monitor or control priests and believers.
