Tisza Party announces five candidates for Constitutional Court

Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party, has announced five candidates for the Hungarian Constitutional Court. The nominees are intended to cover various legal fields, including constitutional, criminal, administrative, civil, and fundamental rights law.

The five candidates are: • Dr. Nóra Chronowski, a university professor and constitutional lawyer. • Dr. Miklós Ligeti, the legal director of Transparency International Hungary. • Dr. György András Kovács, a presiding judge at the Curia and administrative law expert. • Dr. Árpád Gábor Orosz, a former presiding judge at the Curia and civil law expert. • Dr. Zsolt Szomora, a university teacher and deputy of the Institute of Criminal Sciences.

The selection follows the expiration of mandates for several judges, including former President Péter Polt, due to a constitutional amendment reinstating a 70-year age limit. The parliamentary committee is scheduled to hold hearings on Monday, with the final election by the National Assembly expected on Tuesday via secret ballot.

Notably, the nomination of Miklós Ligeti has drawn public attention due to his previous candidacy for the leadership of the National Asset Management and Protection Office (NVVH).
