Man arrested after white silk monkey found in vehicle
A man from Tiszafüred has been arrested after police discovered a white silk monkey in his vehicle during a roadside check in Pomáz on September 24. The animal, found in a cat carrier, lacked any documentation regarding its origin or unique identification. Authorities stated that private individuals are not permitted to keep such exotic animals in Hungary.
The National Investigation Bureau’s Environmental Crime Unit is investigating the case. Because the suspect was previously caught with an illegally smuggled tiger cub approximately ten months ago, he has been detained for recidivism. The tiger cub from the previous incident, named Pablo, is currently living at the Veresegyháza Bear Sanctuary.
The silk monkey, which appears to be a healthy male, has been transported to the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. It is currently being held in quarantine for observation and medical examination.
