Tito Báez, former Dominican Vice-Consul, dies in New Jersey

Elbito Emilio Deris, widely known as ‘Tito Báez’, has passed away in New Jersey following a multi-year battle with cancer.

Báez was a prominent figure within the Dominican diaspora, serving as a political leader for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). His roles included serving as a political delegate for the party before the Office of Services Abroad (OSE) in Paterson, New Jersey. He also previously held diplomatic responsibilities as the Dominican Vice-Consul in New York.

In addition to his political and diplomatic service, Báez was deeply involved in community initiatives and sports, particularly basketball, to support Dominican youth in the United States. He remained active in political processes, including recent internal PLD discussions regarding the 2028 elections.
