Tivaouane Departmental Council donates 300 desks to local schools

The Tivaouane Departmental Council has donated 300 desks to twelve educational institutions, including three modern daaras, to address a shortage of school furniture in the department. The distribution, which took place on October 8, 2026, also included computers, printers, and office supplies to support school administrations.

According to Council President Seynabou Gaye Touré, this initiative is part of a larger plan to provide 1,200 desks to the region. This total includes 300 desks from the 2025 budget, 300 currently being manufactured for the 2026 budget, and 600 desks slated for repair.

The donation comes amid broader logistical challenges in the Tivaouane education sector. Data from the Inspectorate of Education and Training (IEF) indicated a significant deficit in furniture, with a remaining need for thousands of units to meet normative requirements. Additionally, the region has faced teacher attendance fluctuations, with approximately 80.3% of expected educators reporting for duty at the start of the school year.
