Tiziana Baudo skips Rai tribute to Pippo Baudo over theater sale
Tiziana Baudo has explained her decision to skip the inauguration of a new Rai studio in Saxa Rubra named in honor of her father, the legendary broadcaster Pippo Baudo. While Rai executives and other officials attended the ceremony, Tiziana and her brother Alessandro were notably absent.
Tiziana Baudo stated that her absence was a “precise and coherent choice” rather than a lack of respect or a simple oversight. She argued that true tributes should be consistent with the history they intend to celebrate. Her primary grievance concerns the sale of the Teatro delle Vittorie, a symbolic location central to her father's career, which was put up for sale this year.
She noted that Pippo Baudo had personally fought to prevent the theater from being converted into a supermarket and had advocated for Rai to purchase it. Tiziana expressed difficulty understanding why a studio in Saxa Rubra would be named after him while the Teatro delle Vittorie is being decommissioned. She emphasized that memory is preserved not just through plaques, but by protecting the places and history they represent.
