Tiziana Siciliano withdraws candidacy for Milan municipal elections
Tiziana Siciliano, a retired prosecutor from the Milan Prosecutor's Office, has withdrawn her candidacy for the upcoming Milan municipal elections. Siciliano had been positioned to potentially serve as deputy mayor within the “Milano Libera” civic list, led by Massimiliano Lisa, for the elections scheduled for 2027.
In a statement, Siciliano explained that her decision stems from “serious attacks based on falsehoods and insinuations related to my past profession.” While she expected typical electoral controversy, she noted that the nature of the criticism felt like an attempt to use her candidacy as a tool to attack the judiciary. She stated that she chose to step back to protect the integrity and honor of the Prosecutor's Office, to which she remains morally tied.
Siciliano’s career included high-profile investigations, such as the Ruby case and the investigation into the Santa Rita clinic. Her withdrawal comes shortly after her initial expression of availability, before the official campaign had fully commenced.
