Tizimín unrest erupts following social media call over motorcycle thefts

A social media call to action regarding alleged motorcycle thefts escalated into a violent confrontation in the San Francisco neighborhood of Tizimín. Following anonymous posts identifying a residence and individuals suspected of involvement in the thefts, a group of residents gathered, leading to a clash involving stone-throwing and reports of gunfire.

The unrest resulted in damage to at least two homes and a parked vehicle. During the chaos, a woman was reportedly injured in the back. While witnesses reported seeing what appeared to be a weapon and hearing shots, reports indicate a pellet rifle may have been used during the conflict.

Security forces from the Municipal Police, State Investigation Police, and the Secretariat of Public Security deployed to the area to restore order. Despite the heavy police presence, authorities struggled to contain the crowd during the height of the disturbance.
