ŽTK Maribor to build new indoor tennis hall
Železničarski teniški klub (ŽTK) Maribor, recognized as Slovenia’s top tennis club for 23 consecutive years, is constructing a new indoor tennis hall at its Tabor headquarters. The project, valued at over 300,000 euros, aims to expand the capacity of one of the country’s largest tennis schools and provide necessary facilities for high-level competitions.
The new approximately 800-square-meter facility will include a hard court, addressing a shortage of such surfaces in Slovenia. This expansion is intended to accommodate a growing number of students and competitors, as well as to facilitate programs for older players and the hosting of national and international tournaments.
Funding for the investment is provided through a combination of sources: the Municipality of Maribor is contributing 50,000 euros for surfacing, the Sports Foundation is providing 85,000 euros, and the club will cover the remainder through its own funds and loans. The club has also launched a fundraising campaign titled ‘Žogica za naslednje generacije’ (Ball for Future Generations) to support the initiative. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of October, ahead of the winter season.
