Kamloops: Masked white nationalist group holds demonstration near former residential school

A group of masked individuals associated with the white nationalist organization Second Sons Canada held a demonstration near the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia on September 27. The group, described as wearing black clothing and white face coverings, displayed a banner on an overpass reading ‘got bones?’, which officials characterized as an attempt to intimidate and deny the history of residential schools.

The Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Chief and Council issued a safety warning, stating that the presence of such activity is deeply concerning for community members and survivors. The Okanagan Nation Alliance also condemned the act, labeling it as hate, racism, and residential school denialism. The Syilx Okanagan Nation expressed solidarity with the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, noting the personal impact of such actions on Indigenous communities.

RCMP officers responded to the scene, and an investigation is ongoing. While Second Sons Canada is not currently listed as a terrorist entity by Public Safety Canada, reports indicate the agency has identified the growing ‘active club’ white nationalist movement as a risk for extreme violence in the country. Indigenous Services Minister Mandy Gull-Masty was asked about potential criminalization of residential school denialism but did not commit to a specific policy response.
