TKMS secures €8 billion Indian submarine deal and leads CAD 167 billion Canadian project

German shipbuilder TKMS expects an Indian order for six submarines worth about €8 billion by the end of the year, CEO Oliver Burkhard told Reuters and the FAZ. The contract would add to a growing order book that already includes a preferred‑supplier role for Canada’s 212CD Patrol Submarine programme, which could involve up to 12 submarines.

TKMS and partner Kongsberg describe the Canadian offer as generating CAD 167 billion in total economic activity, delivering more than CAD 86 billion in impact and supporting roughly 650,000 job‑years over the project’s life. The plan emphasises a sovereign Canadian sustainment enterprise, workforce development and stronger domestic supply chains, linking German, Norwegian and Canadian industry. TKMS also announced a separate €800 million supply contract with Sweden’s Saab for frigate combat and sensor systems.

These contracts collectively expand TKMS’s global naval footprint across India, Canada, Sweden and other markets.
