Tlaxcala and Uruguay partner to combat child sexual abuse
Tlaxcala and Uruguay have launched an international cooperation project to prevent and address sexual crimes against children and adolescents. The initiative, supported by a $100,000 grant from the Mexico-Uruguay Joint Cooperation Fund, aims to strengthen institutional capacities through specialized training and the exchange of best practices.
A central component of the 12-month project is the development of a digital platform to systematize and track legal cases. This tool is intended to replace manual spreadsheet methods currently used by the Tlaxcala State Procuracy for the Protection of Children and Adolescents, which have made it difficult to monitor case progress and ensure full reparations for victims.
The project involves the Tlaxcala State System for Integral Family Development (SEDIF) and the Uruguayan Institute for Children and Adolescents (INAU). It focuses on three strategic pillars: creating a digital registry, training multidisciplinary legal teams, and fostering long-term institutional knowledge exchange. In Tlaxcala, officials reported that 155 minors have already received legal representation in judicialized sexual offense cases.
