Tlaxcala farmers protest lack of agricultural solutions
Farmers and agricultural workers in Tlaxcala have expressed dissatisfaction with the state government regarding the lack of solutions for the agricultural sector. During a ‘Diálogos Circulares’ meeting, members of the Agricultura Digna movement denounced a historical abandonment of the countryside and claimed that despite submitting various requests and documents to state and federal authorities, their demands remain unresolved.
Protesters criticized the distribution of resources, stating that benefits such as fertilizers and warehouses have not reached all producers. They also rejected allegations that their movement is driven by partisan political interests, asserting instead that their struggle is for territorial defense and rural rights.
In response, Antonio Martínez Velázquez, the state's Communication Coordinator, stated that resources for the agricultural sector have increased, specifically noting support for white corn acquisition. He noted that the governor has signed the peasants' petition and that officials have held approximately ten meetings with representatives. However, Martínez Velázquez clarified that the state government cannot resolve all requests, as some fall under the jurisdiction of other authorities, and suggested that some movement members may have political or electoral motives.
