Morena opens registration for 2027 federal district coordination selection

The Morena political party has launched its internal selection process for Federal District Coordinations in Defense of Transformation and National Sovereignty. This organizational step is aimed at preparing the party's territorial structures for the 2027 federal elections, which include contests for federal deputies.

Registration for interested aspirants is scheduled to take place from October 1 to October 4 via the party's digital platform. The process covers all 300 federal electoral districts across Mexico. To ensure integrity, the party has established strict requirements: aspirants must be Mexican by birth, of legal age, and in full exercise of their rights. The rules prohibit individuals with final sentences for domestic violence, sexual crimes, alimony debt, or political violence against women from participating. Additionally, public servants from the Executive or Judicial branches must resign or take a leave of absence, though current federal deputies seeking reelection are exempt.

In related political developments, several state legislatures have moved to reform constitutional articles regarding nationality for executive roles. In San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas, reforms have been approved to require that those seeking the Presidency, governorships, or the Head of Government of Mexico City must be Mexican citizens by birth and cannot hold or acquire another nationality to ensure exclusive political ties to Mexico.
