Tălmaciu to modernize historic building with 14 million lei

The town of Tălmaciu in Sibiu County has signed a contract for over 14.25 million lei (approximately 2.7 million euros) to modernize a historic 1940s building into a multifunctional social and educational club. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the project aims to rehabilitate the degraded structure, which currently serves as a social and administrative hub.

The modernization will cover nearly 1,060 square meters and is expected to serve a population of over 8,000 people. Key technical improvements include enhanced energy efficiency through thermal insulation, the installation of smart energy management systems, and the replacement of utility networks. The implementation period is scheduled to run from September 2026 to June 2029.

Local officials intend to preserve the building's historical character, including its unique acoustics and original projection equipment. Once completed, the space will be utilized by local associations, schools, and youth groups for cultural and educational activities.
