TMB completes platform accessibility works at Sants Estació and Torrassa

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has completed platform raising works at the Sants Estació (L5) and Torrassa (L1) metro stations. The project aimed to improve accessibility and safety by reducing the vertical and horizontal gaps between trains and platforms, effectively eliminating high steps and empty spaces.

These improvements are designed to assist passengers with reduced mobility, as well as those traveling with strollers, small children, or luggage. TMB President Laia Bonet stated that these actions contribute to a “more accessible, safe and inclusive metro,” fostering greater autonomy for passengers during their journeys.

TMB allocates an annual budget of 900,000 euros for these adaptations on conventional metro lines, allowing for the intervention of approximately two stations per year. While the 40 stations on automatic lines do not require this work due to their original design, TMB continues to select conventional stations based on technical safety criteria, passenger demand, and strategic importance.
