TMB electric bus fleet transition could save 66.5 million euros
A study by the Transport Innovation Center of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (CENIT-UPC) indicates that fully electrifying the Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) bus fleet could result in savings of 66.5 million euros over 15 years.
The report analyzes the replacement of 772 hybrid or conventional combustion vehicles with 100% electric models. While the initial investment in vehicles and charging infrastructure is higher, the study concludes that lower energy consumption and maintenance costs make the transition economically sustainable in the long term.
Beyond direct financial savings, the transition is estimated to provide social and environmental benefits valued at over 80 million euros due to the reduction of CO2, NOx, and particulate matter emissions.
