TMB.cat marks 20 years as a digital mobility platform

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) is celebrating 20 years of its TMB.cat domain in 2026, marking its evolution into a major digital platform for public transport and mobility in Catalonia.

While TMB's online presence began in 1996, the adoption of the .cat domain in 2006 represented a strategic commitment to the Catalan language and territory. Over two decades, the portal has transitioned from a static information site to a complex digital ecosystem. Key milestones include a 2011 shift toward service-oriented content, a 2013 accessibility certification, and a 2016 redesign that introduced real-time information, chatbots, and online ticket sales.

The platform's growth is reflected in its audience, with annual visits increasing by 87.5% over the last 13 years, rising from 8 million to 15 million. TMB is currently undergoing a renewal process to further improve usability and the integration of digital mobility services.
