TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s aide Sumit Roy faces new FIR over job fraud claims

A fresh first‑information report was filed at the Debra police station in West Midnapore, alleging that Sumit Roy, the fugitive executive assistant of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, defrauded individuals by promising state‑government jobs during Mamata Banerjee’s tenure. Earlier, a district court had issued an arrest warrant for Roy in a separate case accusing him of illegal land acquisition, and a lookout notice was also prescribed to prevent his flight abroad.

Police, aided by a joint team of Kolkata police, Central Armed Police Forces and a district investigation unit, conducted a red‑search operation at Banerjee’s residence on Kalighat Road after locating the last mobile‑tower signal of the suspect. Banerjee, who has been interrogated by both the Enforcement Directorate and the Criminal Investigation Department in unrelated matters, remains under scrutiny as the investigation expands.

The FIR adds to multiple legal probes surrounding Banerjee’s political activities and his family’s network in West Bengal.
