TMMOB celebrates 72nd anniversary and Engineering and Architecture Week
The Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) is celebrating its 72nd anniversary and Engineering and Architecture Week. Established following a law passed on February 4, 1954, the organization held its first general assembly in Ankara between October 18 and 22, 1954.
TMMOB President Ali Ekber Çakar highlighted that the profession currently faces significant challenges due to economic and social crises. He noted that engineers, architects, and city planners are dealing with issues such as devaluation of their professions, unemployment, low wages, and job insecurity. Çakar also pointed to a growing shortage of technical personnel in the public sector and the trend of young professionals seeking opportunities abroad due to uncertainty about their futures.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to scientific principles and public interest, stating it will continue to defend the rights of its members alongside the broader struggle for democracy and labor rights in Turkey.
