TNB sets August 2026 electricity surcharge at 3.80 sen/kWh
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) announced that the Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA) surcharge for August 2026 will be +3.80 sen per kilowatt‑hour, a slight rise from +3.59 sen/kWh in July. The pre‑subsidy rate is 4.28 sen/kWh (RM452 million), down from 5.55 sen/kWh (RM583 million) the month before.
The Kumpulan Wang Industri Elektrik (KWIE) fund will absorb 11% of the increase, covering RM51 million (0.48 sen/kWh), compared with a 35% cushion in July. TNB’s three‑month outlook now projects +5.00 sen/kWh for September, +6.81 sen/kWh for October and +7.50 sen/kWh for November.
Fuel price movements contributed to the lower surcharge: Tier 2 gas fell to RM60.42 mmBTU, Tier 1 gas rose to RM31.71 mmBTU, and coal prices increased to USD 131.71/MT. The ringgit weakened to 4.0557 RM/USD in August.
