TNI and East Kalimantan authorities launch food security initiatives

The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Kutai Kartanegara regional government are collaborating to strengthen food security in East Kalimantan through large-scale agricultural initiatives.

Korem 091/ASN plans to expand rice field cultivation by 5,000 hectares by the end of the year, following a previous project covering 1,200 hectares. Brigadier General Anggara Sitompul stated that the TNI is establishing production clusters involving agriculture, livestock, and fisheries to create a sustainable ecosystem from upstream to downstream. This initiative includes the activation of production companies within each Kodim to engage local communities and businesses.

To support productivity, particularly during the dry season, the Kutai Kartanegara government and the TNI are also focusing on irrigation infrastructure. This includes the construction of irrigation systems, the installation of water pumps, and the provision of boreholes to ensure consistent water access for farmers.
