TNI deploys 1,482 personnel for forest fire prevention
The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has prepared 1,482 personnel to serve as educators for the prevention and management of forest and land fires (karhutla). These personnel, drawn from various branches including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and various command colleges, underwent training at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta from August 25 to 31, 2026.
The training aimed to standardize understanding and increase readiness to provide accurate and coordinated information to the public. The mission focuses on promoting the “Pembukaan Lahan Tanpa Bakar” (PLTB) or land clearing without burning method, as well as strengthening rapid response coordination when smoke points or fire risks are detected.
High-ranking officers, including Laksda TNI Donny Suharto and Mayjen TNI Aang Gunawan, emphasized that forest fire management is a humanitarian mission. Beyond technical fire suppression, the initiative is designed to protect communities, the environment, and forest resources.
