TNI forces kill three OPM members in Maybrat firefight

Indonesian military personnel from Koops TNI Habema were involved in a firefight with members of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) Kodap IV/Sorong Raya in the Maybrat Regency of Southwest Papua on Friday, October 9, 2026.

The clash occurred near the Frambu River in the Aifat Timur District during the execution of Operation Badai Kasuari 3.10. Military officials reported that three OPM members were killed in the encounter. One body was recovered at the scene, identified as Manfred Fatem, who reportedly served as the OPM Operations Commander for Kodap IV/Sorong Raya. Two other individuals, identified as Yesias Fatem and Antonius Assem (also known as Anton Fatem), were reportedly swept away by river currents and remain missing.

During the operation, security forces seized an AK-101 firearm, 30 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 9mm ammunition, two mobile phones, OPM attributes, a Morning Star flag, and OPM documentation. No TNI personnel were reported injured during the incident.
