TNI searches for nine women kidnapped in Mimika, Papua
Indonesian security forces are conducting search operations in the Jila District of Mimika Regency, Central Papua, following the alleged kidnapping of civilians by an armed group (KKB).
Brigadier General Vivin Alivianto, Commander of Korem 173/PVB, reported that while 11 women were initially taken, two were shot—resulting in one fatality—and another fell into a ravine. One individual from the latter incident was evacuated to a hospital in Timika. Currently, nine women, including young girls, remain missing. The military suspects the group involved is from the Kodap III Ndugama area.
The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Damai Cartenz Task Force are coordinating with local government authorities to secure the region and provide food assistance to residents who are currently afraid to tend to their farms. Mayjen TNI Febriel Buyung Sikumbang, Commander of Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, stated that data collection is ongoing to facilitate a precise search and rescue operation.
