Tío Riesti goat cheese wins at Spain Food Awards
The Tío Riesti goat cheese from Caravaca de la Cruz has been named the best matured goat cheese at the 38th edition of the Spain Food Awards held in Madrid.
During the ceremony, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Luis Planas emphasized that the food sector is a strategic asset for Spain, representing 10% of the national GDP and generating 68 billion euros in annual exports. Planas noted that the industry employs three million people but faces challenges such as climate change affecting production, geopolitical uncertainties in international markets, and the need for generational renewal.
Additionally, the event presented the ‘España sabe’ campaign, which encourages increased fish consumption, the valuation of domestic products, and the reduction of food waste. Bodegas Protos received the extraordinary award, with President Edmundo Bayón noting the significance of the honor as the company approaches its centenary in 2027.
