Tobacco producers in Argentina receive funding and face industry challenges

The Government of Misiones has announced a new disbursement from the Special Tobacco Fund (FET) to support local producers. Scheduled for September 10, 2026, the payment will benefit 12,050 tobacco producers specializing in Burley, Criollo Misionero, and Criollo Argentino varieties. The total disbursement amounts to approximately $8.612 billion pesos, based on an average price of $197.42 per kilogram for a total production of 43,621,799 kilograms.

In the province of Jujuy, representatives from the Tobacco Chamber are addressing challenges within the sector, including the administration of FET resources and the economic pressures facing farmers. The Chamber is preparing for the partial renewal of its board of directors, with elections scheduled for September 3 in Perico. Industry leaders noted that the availability of FET funds is critical for producers to maintain planting and production cycles, while also highlighting issues such as tax evasion, informality, and smuggling that impact fund collection.
