Tobias Crespo proposes permanent urban sanitation policy
Deputy Tobias Crespo has proposed transforming occasional environmental sanitation campaigns into a permanent public policy for urban management in Greater Santo Domingo. The initiative aims to ensure efficient waste collection and protect public spaces through continuous programs rather than sporadic efforts.
The proposal includes the creation of permanent community brigades, the installation of clean points in densely populated sectors, and the implementation of community incentives for neighborhoods that maintain high cleanliness standards. Crespo emphasized that the plan requires coordination between the National District Mayor's Office, the Ministry of Environment, and local neighborhood associations to secure necessary logistics and funding.
Following a volunteer cleaning event at Güibia beach organized by the Mares Circulares initiative, Crespo advocated for sustained interventions in the Ozama and Isabela rivers, as well as local ravines and coasts. He noted that preventing waste from entering the sea through streets and rivers is essential for protecting marine life and reducing long-term cleaning costs.
