Tobias Goldschmidt criticizes federal renewable energy reforms

Schleswig-Holstein Environment Minister Tobias Goldschmidt has criticized Federal Economy Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) for proposed energy reforms that he claims will hinder investments in renewable energy.

Goldschmidt argues that the federal government’s ‘grid package’—intended to better coordinate the expansion of wind and solar power with grid development to reduce costs—actually increases investment risks and slows the pace of the energy transition. He contends that the reforms could impede regional economic development and undermine energy security by maintaining a dependence on fossil fuels.

Furthermore, Goldschmidt expressed concern regarding the impact on local municipalities. He stated that if federal laws prevent the use of designated wind energy areas at the local level, it could be ‘endangering democracy’ by placing undue burdens on communities and potentially stalling green electricity production.
